Where to stay near the Jordan River and Oquirrh Mountain temples

Our two South Jordan homes are about five minutes from both temples in town, the Jordan River Utah Temple and the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple. Together they sleep 22, so the whole family can stay close to the sealing and still have room to spread out.

Here is what we tell families planning a wedding or sealing weekend, from the drive to the temple to who sleeps where.

Planning a wedding or sealing weekend

  1. Schedule the sealing first

The couple contacts the temple to schedule the sealing. Confirm the temple is open that week before anyone books travel.

  2. Hold both homes early

Spring, summer and holiday Saturdays go first. One bundle booking holds both of our homes for the same dates.

  3. Plan for guests who wait

Guests without a temple recommend are welcome on the grounds, and most temples have a room where they can wait. Children on the grounds need an adult with them, so line up someone to watch the little ones.

  4. Take photos on the grounds

Photos are not allowed inside the temple, but family photos on the grounds are common. Skip the rice, horns and car decorations there.

  5. Hold the luncheon or reception elsewhere

Our homes are for overnight stays, so receptions and parties are not allowed. Getting ready at the house and family meals are fine.
